Ownership
WDBIH is wholly owned by the WDB Trust (there are no institutional or individual investors) and therefore our first priority is to ensure that at all times we fulfil the broader mandate of the WDB Group, namely that we serve the interests of the economic upliftment and social advancement of primary black women in South Africa.
We achieve this in two ways:
• By realising value through our investments to repatriate to the WDB Trust to assist in its operating costs. In so doing we strengthen the Trust’s ability to manage its programmes for the benefit of poor South African women;
• By ensuring that any strategic partnership we undertake within our investment portfolio also results in the empowerment of women within those business sectors through their participation at board level and operationally.
In addition, wherever we are able to we endeavour to establish small businesses that are women owned and women managed on the back of our equity investments.
